Positioners, or valve positioners, are part of a control loop and are located between a controller and a control valve. A positioner very accurately sets the position of a control valve. The positioner thus controls, for example, the flow, pressure or temperature in a process. Because valves never open and close exactly linearly, without a positioner it would not move to exactly the right position.
