Temperature measurement ice floor Thialf Heerenveen
Ever since 1967, Ice Stadium Thialf in Heerenveen has been offering the best conditions to enable top athletes to achieve world-class performances. We are proud that our business unit ATAL has been able to contribute to the temperature control of the renewed ice floor of the ice temple through our relationship Warmtebouw Utrecht.
Huge project
Warmtebouw Utrecht, together with main contractor Heddes, who was responsible for the construction work, made an enormous effort to replace the complete installation in front of and in the ice rink. The freezing system, the water treatment, the air treatment and the transfer of heat and cold; everything has been renewed. The old ice rink has been dismantled and fitted with new floor cooling, while underfloor heating has been installed in the middle area and along the ice rink. The air management system has also been tackled, with new air handling units and air supply from air ducts around the ice rink floor and, in the case of a temporary facility, also from the ceiling.
Energy efficient ice factory
The technical areas have also been completely renovated. New, energy-efficient cooling machines with the automatic control system from Warmtebouw cool the ice rink and simultaneously supply the required heat.
Where there were 24 central heating boilers in the old Thialf, all the necessary heat is now obtained from the ice factory. Together with a heat pump and geothermal heat, this forms the beating heart of a sustainable and gas-free Thialf.
180 measuring transducers
For this project, the complete installation in front of and in the ice floor has therefore been replaced. This includes the freezing installation, the water treatment, the air treatment and the transfer of heat and cold. We supplied more than 180 TEP-301 measuring transducers for the ice floor.
These converters convert the temperature resistance signal of the connected Pt100 sensor into a 4-20mA signal. The temperature of the ice floor is optimized at 180 measurement points via this signal. The renewed ice floor, in combination with the other installations, the knowledge of the ice masters and of course the performance of the skaters themselves ensures top times.
