Een goed binnenklimaat bepaalt of je ergens prettig en gezond kunt verblijven. Door het binnenklimaat continu te meten en te bewaken kan er op tijd worden ingegrepen als de luchtkwaliteit in een ruimte verslechtert.

Een ruimte moet niet te koud, maar ook weer niet te warm zijn. Bij een lage luchtvochtigheid krijg je last van droge ogen en een droge keel, maar een hoge luchtvochtiheid voelt weer benauwd aan. Verder speelt het CO2-gehalte een grote rol voor de kwaliteit van het binnenklimaat. Er zijn ook nog andere gassen die het binnenklimaat kunnen beïnvloeden zoals VOC's (vluchtige organische stoffen), ozon en formaldehyde.

Met binnenklimaatbewaking houdt je al deze verschillende parameters, die samen de luchtkwaliteit bepalen, in de gaten. Dit kan met lokale sensoren die lokaal alarmen met een lamp of zoemer, maar er zijn ook complete softwaresystemen waarmee de bewaking volledig kan worden gecentraliseerd en geautomatiseerd.
